With plunging CD sales, big revenue for the major record companies now lies in the soulless market of commercials, wallpaper music and ring-tones - the money for performers, however, has always been in the live arena. Encouraging artists to compose robotic incidental blandness will, in the long term, serve only to deter audiences from attending the shows altogether.

This is why Debt Records is primarily interested in LIVE music. There are no vanity projects here, just established live acts with a proven track record who are unwilling to compromise themselves for the sake of potentially lucrative but pitifully short-sighted record contracts.

No one factor unifies the Debt Set ("X" or otherwise). There's rock music, folk and blues music, lyricism and humour, satire, jazz, experimental lo-fi elements and performance poetry (among other things).
